What issues are burning in your hearts?
I'll start it off with good old Freedom of Speech. We already have this, and of course it's used all the time. In our information age we have the power to post our thoughts (and our dinner pics) at will. Does this create a problem? Are we watering down our right to free speech? Do we have a responsibility to fully analyze an issue before slapping down a few witty lines or uploading a smartypants meme? What are your thoughts, 8th Graders?

ReplyDeleteThe issues that are burning into my heart are the loss of my grandparents because I don't know how long it will be for them. Yes this creates a problem because my mom wants me to move to Tampa, FL with her and I don't want to. No I am not watering down to free speech because she doesn't want to hear a word I have to say about it. Well kinda because she thinks that I don't want to leave is because of my family an friends. I think that she should let me stay and be here to support my grandparents.

DeleteWhen you have the power to post your thoughts at will it could be a problem, it just depends on what you say and how you say it. I don't think that we are watering down our right to speech because people are still as able to speak out as they were before now. We do have a responsibility to analyze an issue about what we are posting. I noticed that all these questions were things we could change if we needed to. In my opinion some of this wouldn't be hard to mess around with and fix. I think we've had the same rights as we did before, none of them have gone away. I just think everyone can speak as they want as long as it isn't gonna get them into trouble with someone else, like serious trouble.

ReplyDeleteI think we should think before we post because people don't need to know what your doing or where your at. I say it's a problem because who cares what you're doing people don't need to know. Posting so much stuff doesn't matter and some stuff does matter but is gets lost because all of the other stuff. I believe that anyone could post anything but that isn't always a good thing.
ReplyDeleteI think that it does create a problem. The only reason I say it does is because not everyone treats the freedom of speech correctly. Some people abuse it by saying to much of it on one situation. It shouldn't create a problem but not everyone can mind their own business and let go. There is a lot of people who like to start arguments and fights. But everyone has a right to their own opinion.
ReplyDeleteI think that we should think before we post because, everyone doesnt need to know about our personal life and what were doing every second of the day. Because people really dont want to know what your doing all the time. I think people should start thinking before they post things. People should only post things that people would like to hear not things that people would block you for.
ReplyDeleteI think that it does cause some problems. Some things that people post are offensive to others so arguments occur on the internet. I think that it is okay at times to post random stuff such as memes or what you're eating for dinner but it can also be annoying and ridiculous if people post so much of these things. Sometimes people just need to not post everything that's happening in their life. I think that people should analyze before they post because what they could be posting can be hurtful or just too much information.

ReplyDeleteI think that we are somewhat creating a problem with the fact that with our freedom of speech and internet access we are bullying eachother through cyber space, Yes we are watering it down since the goverment has to crack down on those who abuse the right of speech,And we do have to be responsible and careful of what we post for it might hurt others.

ReplyDeleteAn issue that is in my heart is homelessness throughout the United States. We are United we should help each other out with food, clothing, and shelter. We take our things we have for granted when others could use them more than we could.
ReplyDeleteI feel like people are getting less and less freedom of speech. Some people have a harsh opinion but it is your right to be able to say it. You should be able to say whatever you want the outcome might not be good but its your right. I feel like people are taking away freedom of speech because they are getting there feelings hurt and that's apart of life.
ReplyDeleteIssues that are burning in my heart are learning how to treat others, if someone speaks about their opinion then someone is going to disagree and tell them that they are wrong. We do have freedom of speech, but if we say whatever we want to say then I think it will create a big problem because people will be agreeing and disagreeing and then it will just become a big issue.
ReplyDeleteI think that freedom of speech is needed. If you cannot freely speak your mind then you will struggle in life with expressing yourself because you are so used to keeping your comments to yourself. It can also help with major life decisions and it can be really hard to understand for some people. But it is important that you speak up. I personally speak my own mind whether or not people want to hear it or not because it is what I feel and if I keep it to myself I will start to build everything up.

ReplyDeleteI think that everyone should think about what they're about to post before they actually post it because if you think about it, it might be something that would offend someone or something that just isn't right to share it for everyone to see. It's okay to post think like a picture of you pet or something like that.

ReplyDeleteI think that it kinda does create a promplem because people post things and they are just stating there mind and other peeopl think they are tlaking about them and it starts stupid fights. I also think that people take advantage of there freedom of speech because they think that they can be mean to other people but words hurt sometimes. when posting things i think of other people becuase when posting something you think is funny may hurt somebody.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it is watering down are freedom of speech, because it is freedom of speech for a reason. We can speak freely upon the internet and in real life. I don't think it is that important but it is some people do.
ReplyDeleteThe problem with free speech is it can get out of hand when people start expressing their opinion and when people start they wont stop its become a problem not just over social media ,but also at your home and school too, and it'll start affecting your social life and school life as well. Don't get me wrong i still think people should be able to put they opinion out on the table no matter what.
ReplyDeleteI think that people over over-exaggerate giving out information because they say stalker and stuff are watching your stuff but they are not and most people put out their stuff and don't get robbed or stalked or stuff like that.

ReplyDeleteI think a lot of people take advantage of the whole freedom of speech thing. Like when people say things like Donald Trump sucks or something and they don't even know who that is. They just say that because all of their friends say it rather then analyzing the situation, and making an intelligent statement based on their opinion.
ReplyDeleteI think that the more that everybody has freedom of speech then there a lot of more issues. Such as friends want to go behind a person back and say something dumb then after that they are stuck into a big whole that they have to try and resolve but... the reason why people should not have so much freedom of speech is because there are always rude comments that people say and then when people argue then they usually get to the point where they fight that person.

ReplyDeleteI think that people are abusing the "freedom of speech" law. Seeing as Donald Trump is still in the running to be president. Some people are being threatened to be "sent back to their home town." It's not a very good joke to play.

ReplyDeleteI feel that the inter webs do and dont cause problems. There are harmless things that people post on social media all the time. But then there are things that do cause problems, personally or stereo typically.Things like racial issues, bullying, Etc. But I think that the internet actually makes our voices louder. We still have the freedom to say what we want, but now, we can just post it. We cant create blogs about a topic, and make an online movement. So I think we are not watering down our freedom of speech.
ReplyDeleteThe freedom of speech is getting out of control because kids around my age like to say what they want and then they say its freedom of speech even if what they say is wrong.
ReplyDeleteIf something is bothering you can try sharing it with someone it might make you feel relieved. It really helps if you don't keep your feelings bottled up inside.
ReplyDeleteMy issue is about global warming. this issue has been bad for ten years. some people tried to help but all the government did not want to help. Obama has tried to help be most of the companies have stopped him from doing anything about the issue. So i think that this is an issue that needs to be fixed

ReplyDeleteYeah, I definitely think people overuse the internet and their ability to say and do whatever they want on it. People need to stop not thinking before they post dumb stuff, yes you have a right to post stuff, but no one wants to know what your ceiling fan looks like or the brand of peanut butter you use. Calm down and think before you post dumb stuff.

ReplyDeleteI think that money is a big problem especially since there is a 1% in our country that is making a lot more than the rest living us slightly in the middle of rich and poor but leaning more on the poor side. I get that they worked hard for what they do to deserve that money but a lot of us work hard to and we barely get payed average for it! They ones that are poor didn't work hard for it and that's their fault for not doing anything that was possible for them.
ReplyDeleteWhat matters to me is the LGBT matter because my sister is Lesbian and she is openly free with friends and family about it she is proud to be one and she doesn't care what other people think of her because of the gender she likes.

ReplyDeleteI think that every one should have the same freedom weather they are White,Black,Latino,Gay,female,male or anything else.We should all be treated the same.and homeless or poor people should also have the same freedom.you can't deny someone for who they are they are that way and they will stay that way no matter how much you don't like them

Just because we have freedom of speech does not mean it is okay too say absolutely anything . There are still laws . I feel as if people keep going at the rate that there going then we won't have the same rights to freedom of speech that we have as of now .

ReplyDeleteThe freedom of speech is helpful in inspiring people to do things. If someone believes in a cause strongly, they should be allowed to talk about it publicly to other people to make the cause stronger.
i think that cops shouldn't turn to there gun as ther first thing they do because it seems like they just pull it out in every situation
